§ Hand Rearing

Hand rearing is both very involved and rewarding and should not be attempted by someone unless they have been shown  how to do it correctly and are willing to spend the time to do it properly. Hand rearing is very time consuming but also very fun and exciting watching the little birds grow up and change colour but be warned it is a big commitment take on.

Feeding
We syringe feed all our seed eating birds.  We feel it is safer than crop feeding and not as messy as spoon feeding.  Also we find the birds interact better with people as more time is spent with them.  It really depends on what suits you as to which method you use and weather the birds are going to be pet or breeding birds.  Our seed eating birds are fed Roudybush formula 3 which can be quite expensive but has always ensured we bring up healthy quality birds.  We are looking at trying a new food called Hagan's which people are raving about but will be using up our roudybush first.

Our lorikeets are spoon fed as they seem to take to the spoon better than the syringe and they wean a lot easier. Also the food is easier to clean off their feathers than the roudybush.  They are fed the same wet mix that the breeding birds get with a few extra special ingredients added which our babies seem to thrive on.

Good luck and don't forget to enjoy your birds!
